Structured Literacy Support for Dyslexia
Learning to read and spell can be challenging for students with dyslexia and other language-based reading difficulties. I provide individualized, one-on-one Orton-Gillingham literacy instruction designed to help students build the foundational skills they need to become more confident and independent readers and spellers.
As a speech-language pathologist, I bring specialized knowledge of language development, phonological awareness, and literacy to my work with students. I combine this expertise with Orton-Gillingham instruction to provide structured, systematic, and explicit support tailored to each student's needs.
What Does Orton-Gillingham Instruction Look Like?
Orton-Gillingham instruction is structured, systematic, explicit, and responsive to each student's individual needs. Lessons build skills step by step, helping students understand how sounds, letters, syllables, and word parts work together.
Depending on your child's needs, sessions target phonological awareness, decoding, spelling, and encoding, as well as syllable types, morphology, reading fluency, and the application of these skills to increasingly complex words and texts.
Instruction is cumulative; new skills are built on previously learned concepts while providing opportunities for review and practice. The goal is to develop skills and strategies they can apply independently across reading and writing.
